The arrival of the year’s first snowfall holds a magical quality, marking a distinct transition in the seasons that captivates the senses and inspires the imagination. This moment, when the remnants of autumn clash with the onset of winter, creates a visually stunning landscape. Some trees retain their leaves, and the grass remains lush and green. Upon this grass, the snow begins to settle, crafting a unique texture. Each flake that falls contributes to a delicate pattern, as snow gathers around the blades of grass, forming intricate hollows. This observation led to a creative process which manifested itself in the creation of the shelf:  “la prima nëif”

“La prima nëif,” which translates to “first snow” in Ladin, my mother tongue, is not just a shelf. The creation of this piece was driven by the desire to capture the essence of that initial snow, the way it interacts with the elements of nature still holding onto life amidst the cold. It embodies the spirit of that first snow, transforming the fleeting beauty of nature into a tangible form that can be appreciated and reflected.

This shelf is more than a piece of furniture, it is a narrative, a slice of nature’s story told through the medium of design. It invites those who encounter it to pause and consider the intricate balance between the seasons, the gentle power of snow, and the beauty that can be found in moments of transition.
