The ubiquity of digital technology and increased connectivity does not allow people to let go. We are never alone, constantly available, and often distracted. The mind is constantly fed with information and images. There is no place where you can escape the world. The safe place to retreat has always been one‘s own home, but the technological boom that COVID has brought even more of the outside world inside.
To offer people the possibility of escaping from this connected world, a place is created where one can escape from the world and immerse oneself in another reality.
Shape, color, and materiality are chosen to meet our requirements of privacy in the future. The geometry of the space is determined by an oval shape. It supports the withdrawal from everyday reality, away from edges and rectangular spatial geometries. The room itself is an independent volume that stands for itself. It does not border another wall at any point. The space itself is located underground. Each cube is accessed individually, via an attached staircase. The staircase leads from the upper ground to the entrance of the hotel room and further down to the service area.
