Why do we need snow?

The elaboration of the project resulted in a division into two main sections. On the one hand, the properties and facets of the material are to be demonstrated by examining it from different perspectives. Snow as a material has been discussed with Dr. Martin Schneebeli of the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF in Davos.

The second part deals with snow in the context of current global warming. The steadily increasing temperatures lead to the reduction of snow cover duration, with far-reaching consequences for humans and the environment. The expert on the current development of snow cover is Michael Matiu from EURAC RESEARCH in Bolzano.
In order to communicate this scientific content in an engaging way, different objects are created, in which the information is transformed and presented through a personal vision.
Different media, like 3D objects, audio recordings, graphics and pictures are chosen and coordinated especially for the content to be transmitted. In designing the objects, care is taken to ensure that they function both as mediators of the message and as objects in their independent right. They do not necessarily want to be beautiful or present themselves as extremely ergonomic, but function as communicators of content with their own unique character. Each object has its own distinct story of creation which is described throughout this work. This process is crucial for the finished object, as it leads to the constant adaptation of the design and a change in personal attitude towards the material in question.
